Before you book

Personal shopping, explained.

An independent personal shopper shops with you, or for you, for the pieces your wardrobe is missing, in your size and budget. Many pre-pick rails in the shops before you arrive, so the session is spent trying on rather than searching.

Unlike a shop’s own free service, an independent shopper isn’t tied to one store, and most start from a wardrobe edit or a brief, so what you buy works with what you already own.

What to ask

  • Whether they’re paid by you or earn commission from shops
  • Your budget, and whether it includes their fee
  • Which shops and price levels they work with
  • Whether they shop online for you between sessions

Closetboard for iPhone

Your stylist, inside your closet.

A stylist works best when they can see what you already own. Closetboard puts your whole wardrobe on your phone, cut out and ready to pin into outfits, so a session in Madrid or over video starts with your real clothes, not a rail of new ones.

  • Share your closet with your stylist. They see every piece you own and build looks from them on a board, between appointments too.
  • Say yes or no to each look. Looks they make for you arrive in their own album, with their notes beside your pieces.
  • Pieces they suggest land in your wish list, where you can try them against what you own before buying.
  • Keep it going on your own. Style me finds outfits you’ve never worn together, for the day’s weather, from the same closet.

Questions

Good to know.

What should I ask before booking?

Whether they’re paid by you or earn commission from shops. Your budget, and whether it includes their fee. Which shops and price levels they work with. Whether they shop online for you between sessions. And look at their own work first: a stylist’s portfolio or Instagram tells you more about their eye than their prices do.

Can I book a personal shopper online?

Yes: 5 of the 6 stylists here also work over video, so you don’t need to be in Madrid. You show them your wardrobe on camera or in photos.

Are these stylists paid to be listed?

No. Every listing comes from the stylist’s own public website, nobody pays to be here or to be higher up, and the order is alphabetical. Closetboard takes no fee when you book.
