What should you charge?
Two answers in one: where stylists like you start their prices, from the 76 who publish them in Closetboard’s directory, and the least you need to charge to earn what you want.

The least you can charge
…
Starting prices are the lowest price each stylist publishes on their own website, from the Closetboard directory (checked October 2026). They show where sessions start, not what a full package costs. Your floor is (income + costs) ÷ (sessions a week × weeks a year), before tax.

How to use the two numbers.
Where stylists start is the middle half of the starting prices stylists publish for that kind of session: a quarter start lower, a quarter higher. Starting prices are the cheapest thing on a stylist’s price list, so full sessions and packages usually cost more.
The least you can charge is what each session has to bring in to reach your income after your costs. Below it, you’re working at a loss; it isn’t a target. Remember the hours nobody pays for (travel, messages, planning looks, admin) when you choose how many paid sessions a week are realistic.
Most stylists settle on a price between the two, then raise it as their diary fills. How much to charge as a personal stylist goes through it step by step, and personal styling packages shows ways to put sessions together.
Questions
Good to know.
Where do the prices come from?
From the stylists in Closetboard’s directory who publish a starting price on their own website: 76 of the 241, checked in October 2026. Each counts once, at their lowest published price.
Why are some kinds of session missing for a place?
When fewer than four stylists publish a price for that kind of session there, the calculator shows every kind of session for the place instead, rather than a number built on one or two prices.
Should I charge by the hour or by the session?
Most stylists in the directory publish a price per session or package rather than per hour, which lets clients see what they get. Whichever you choose, check it against your floor.
Is this financial advice?
No. It’s a starting point built on published prices and your own numbers. An accountant can help with tax and what your business really costs to run.
